Wine is
one of the most civilized things in the world
and one of the most natural things of the world
that has been brought to the greatest
perfection, and it offers a greater range for
enjoyment and appreciation than, possibly, any
other purely sensory thing.
Ernest Hemingway - Death in the Afternoon

Gold for Buitenverwachting
South Africa’s most respected wine competition
The Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show has just held
its tenth annual judging of South African wines;
a decade of bringing the attention of the wine
loving public to the best wines in the land.
There were 43 classes of entry to which 1062
wines were entered.
Gold achieved:
Hussey’s Vlei Sauvignon Blanc 2010
The grape for this wine is grown in a very
special vineyard situated high on The
Constantiaberg in a portion of the farm known as
Hussey’s Vlei. Sauvignon Blanc from this
vineyard is always special, the 2010 has been
acknowledged as superb by an illustrious panel
of judges headed by wine connoisseur Michael
Fridjhon.
Bronze achieved:
Hussey’s Vlei Sauvignon Blanc 2009;
Maximus 2009;
Cabernet Franc 2009;
Cabernet Sauvignon 2006;
G Limited Vintage 2010;
Chardonnay 2010;
Sauvignon Blanc 2007
Winning an Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show medal is
a great honour, each wine entered is closely
scrutinised by an distinguished panel of nine
judges headed by South African wine connoisseur
Michael Fridjhon, who said: “The past decade has
seen extraordinary changes at the top end of the
South African wine industry and the Old Mutual
Trophy Wine Show played an important role in
discovering new talent and showcasing this
achievement”. |

A word from Lars
The harvest is now finally over. 2011
was a small crop at Buitenverwachting,
but the qualities on red and white
varietals are very exciting. While the
winemaking processes continue in the
cellar, the viticultural planning for
2012 are in full swing.
We are implementing new pruning methods
and our former Riesling block is getting
prepared for new plantings in September.
Past experience proved to us that the
dark red and rich granite soils are
perfect for expressive Sauvignon Blanc. |
