The Restaurant
Fine dining in a contemporary, continental
atmosphere with a South African edge ... the most
fantastic views in Constantia and well trained
staff to look after your every wish.
Cheerful and experienced Restaurant Manager
Etienne Borman tells us that a brand new,
exciting a la carte menu is about to be introduced.
It is to be
known as 'The Nuptials', an exercise in the
perfect marriage of the fantastic wine cellar of
the Restaurant and the innovative techniques of
the chef Edgar Osojnik.
The staff have spent many hours in training,
learning just what Edgar’s vision is and the new
techniques that have been used to create this
menu.
Your scribe was there and can assure
you that your taste buds are going to appreciate
the gourmet experience in store. |

Rave Review ...
Simon and Baker - Travel Review, one of the
extremely discerning and highly respected
American Travel sites, said:
Although we had visited Constantia, an upscale
Cape Town suburb, a number of times over the
years we first heard about Buitenverwachting by
chance while dining with a local foodie who
mentioned that the restaurant had recently been
refurbished. Lady luck was with us: we still had
time to visit the restaurant before leaving Cape
Town on our way to the Garden Route and the
restaurant was able to accommodate us. It turned
out Buitenverwachting, meaning “beyond
expectation,” exceeded our expectations.
Two things stand out about this understated
find, the superbly prepared and presented
tasting menu with wine pairing we sampled and
the outstanding dining room seating with a
dreamy view of the property's own vineyards. It
was still early in the season and we had the
pleasure of sharing the tastefully decorated
dining room (our favorite area was the enclosed
patio facing the vineyards) with only a handful
of other guests on a sunny spring day. It was a
most tranquil setting. Click here to

Getting to know us ...

Ilze Rens – Tasting Room Manager
A born and bred Capetonian Ilze loves wine and
has always admired the Buitenverwachting farm.
She loved science and biology at school.
Sociable by nature, it was while chatting to
friends that one of them mentioned they were
studying viticulture, this immediately
fascinated Ilze who made enquiries and decided
to do her B Agric. Majoring in Oenology and
Viticulture.
Whilst studying she met her husband Richard and
on their first date he ordered
Buitenverwachting’s Blanc de Noir as their table
wine at a restaurant in Hout Bay. No prizes for
guessing that the Blanc de Noir is her favourite
wine! |
A qualified winemaker she loves her job managing
the Tasting Room, she loves working with the
guests and discussing the merits of the various
superb wines made at Buitenverwachting. She says
“Buitenverwachting feels like my family now” and
she loves it!
Ilze runs and cycles to keep fit and fortunately
loves Motor Bikes as Richard races Super Bikes
(by the way she has her own Bike.
What’s next on her agenda? She is looking at
doing her MBA.

Yolanda
Osojnik
- Events and Functions Manager
Yolanda is married to Chef Patron of
Buitenverwachting Restaurant, Edgar Osojnik;
both have the same work ethic which is to please
the customer. They have two beautiful daughters
and Yolanda also has a very handsome son from a
previous marriage.
Her 10 years of experience in the corporate
world have served her well in her demanding job
as Events and Functions Manager at
Buitenverwachting. Extremely creative, the
planning of special events and functions comes
easily to her.
From the smallest intimate wedding to exclusive
functions of up to 100 people, Yolanda produces
the most talked-about events.
|
Some of the functions she has most enjoyed
organising:
| • |
A wedding for 200 guests in
a marquee. |
| • |
A Gala Dinner for Sepp Blatter at which 60
international VIPs enjoyed a 5 course meal with
matching wines. It goes without saying that
table settings, flowers and gifts were beyond
compare. Elegant and exclusive. |
| • |
The Constantia Fresh event
at which 5 of Constantia’s
award winning chefs and 30
wine producers showed their
wares. 500 people attended
and there was an amazing braai
afterwards. Everything ran like clockwork and
the event was lauded in the media. |
To sum up, it would be difficult to find a more
capable and creative person to arrange anything
-from a christening, special birthday, wedding
to a wake.
Yolanda has wonderful contacts and she makes it
her business to fulfil her clients every wish
and produce a five star event!

More on wine ...
 |
Cellarmaster Herman
Kirschbaum says that the
2010 harvest was weird and
unpredictable and he and
Brad had to really keep
their eye on the vineyard to
harvest at exactly the right
time. The quality of the
grapes was amazing!
The young wines are looking
good and are more
concentrated than last year.
All in all he says that they
are very happy with the way
the 2010 wines are

Proudly South African ...
Our tap water quality is third best overall in
the world. Apparently South Africa is one of 12
countries in the world that supplies tap water
fit enough to drink.
Walt Disney serves South African wine
exclusively at US Animal Kingdom Lodge.
South Africa is home to the world's smallest
succulent plants (less than 10 mm) and the
largest (the baobab). Hmm, who knew that the
baobab is a type of succulent? |
